Hormones and Muscle Growth: The Role of Testosterone, DHEA, and Growth Hormone
#hormones #musclemedicine #testosterone
The video is a detailed presentation about the importance of muscle health, exercise, and the physiological roles of muscles beyond just physical appearance. Here's a breakdown of the key points covered in the script:
Introduction to Exercise and Mental Health:
- Exercise has been shown to improve mental health, reducing depression and anxiety.
- Emphasis on the desire to maintain muscle and overall health as one ages.
Role of Muscle Medicine:
- Muscle is an endocrine organ with various functions beyond aesthetics.
- Focus on hormonal fitness and muscle medicine to optimize health and performance.
Understanding the Why:
- Importance of understanding the reasons behind why exercise and muscle health are beneficial.
- Knowledge versus understanding: deeper understanding leads to better application and commitment.
Benefits of Muscle Health:
- Metabolism, insulin sensitivity, blood sugar regulation, movement, bone health, anti-inflammatory effects, disease prevention, mitochondrial health, and mental health benefits.
- Exercise can extend life and reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.
Sarcopenia and Muscle Loss:
- Muscle loss with age leads to frailty, balance issues, osteoporosis, insulin sensitivity loss, increased visceral fat, and chronic diseases.
- Importance of preventing muscle loss through exercise and maintaining muscle mass.
Factors Leading to Muscle Loss:
- Inactivity, hormonal changes, motor unit loss, mitochondrial dysfunction, and inflammation.
- Anabolic resistance, muscle fiber type shifts, mitochondrial loss, and cellular dysfunction contribute to muscle aging.
Muscle as an Endocrine Organ:
- Myokines: signaling proteins produced by muscle cells that communicate with other organs.
- Myokines play roles in energy supply, muscle growth, inflammation reduction, and overall body health.
Specific Myokines and Their Functions:
- Various myokines like myostatin, IL-6, IL-15, and irisin have specific roles in muscle growth, insulin sensitivity, fat oxidation, and inflammation reduction.
- Myokines can affect brain function, appetite, cognitive function, and mood.
Muscle and Bone Health:
- Muscle health affects bone density and strength.
- Myokines improve bone remodeling and prevent osteoporosis.
Muscle and Liver/Gut Health:
- Myokines help regulate glucose metabolism and insulin secretion.
- Exercise-induced myokines like IL-6 and GLP-1 improve gut health and metabolism.
Cortisol Management:
- Acute cortisol spikes during exercise can help burn fat and build muscle.
- Post-workout strategies, like carbohydrate intake, help lower cortisol levels to avoid chronic elevation which can be catabolic (breaking down muscle).
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and Peptides:
- HRT and peptides like growth hormone and IGF-1 support muscle maintenance, fat loss, and recovery.
- These therapies can also enhance sleep, injury repair, and overall metabolism.
Hormones and Muscle Growth:
- Hormones like testosterone, DHEA, and growth hormone play a significant role in muscle anabolism (building) and overall health.
- Maintaining hormonal balance is essential for reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.

I didn’t follow the frequency solution for lower SHBG. If currently 120mg total broken into 3 injections a week. Would moving to 120mg total broken into 2 injections per week be a decent recommendation?

Despite everything I do, including TRT, zone 2 cardio every day, weights 4-5 times a week, sauna and cold plunge, my visceral fat is high as read by a Dexa scan. My blood work is optimal and I’m even insulin sensitive. Not sure what else to do. I’m a 56 yo male, any suggestions would be appreciated.

All men need to get their levels check when they're in their prime. That way when the next generation reaches middle-age, doctors have real data and not the arbitrary data they gather using the worst limited selection of test subject to come up with the wacky system they use today. Male testoterone range is a perfect example of the "best guess" science used in medicine today. Hint: its not science, its political. People tend to forget that the medical industry and big pharma are first and foremost businesses. And like all businesses, they will do whatever they have to do to maximize profit. Even use pseudo-science.

This is interesting I changed my own protocol from EOD at 180mg of Sus to EOD cyp no issues although I was still feeling tired. Then I tried 200mg of cyp split M,W,F still feeling somewhat tired SHBG at 25 estrogen on point as with other makers the only difference I felt was slight headaches. Then I went daily 30mg cyp/enanthate been doing this for 7 weeks now and although sex drive is good bloods are good I feel even more tired, why could this be? The Doc seems to love 250 a week he did mention this quite a bit? Should I increase my daily dose?

Hello gentlemen, my total T is 305 and free is only 6.1. I have all the symptoms of fatigue, 0 motivation and what not. I tried trt a couple month ago and with first shot of 50 mg I had worst headaches for 6 weeks non stop. so I had to stop and after 6 weeks I started again with 50 mg a week but lost my libido completely and I never had that problem. I stopped again and not taking it anymore. I am very confused at this point that what are my options as trt was such a nightmare for me with headaches and 0 libido. My TH is 4. You think enchlomiphene is a good option for me. Please suggest.

    • @balancemyhormones
      @balancemyhormones День тому

Your natural testosterone level is always in a state of flux in a daily basis. Exogenous testosterone suppresses your HPTA and the release of gonadotropins LH and FSH. Most patients will get a return of the HPTa to a certain degree after a period of time without exogenous testosterone. The question is if it’s adequate to prevent the symptoms of low testosterone when your own levels kick back in to some degree. There’s no guarantee that you will return to the levels that were measured before starting TRT. You might achieve those levels at some point after stopping or you may never return as you’re now older, more oxidative damage, potential atrophy of gonads if no HCG used. But even if you return to your baseline you may not feel symptom free at that level as you’ve improved with TRT. Bit some will stop and be fine with being under their own levels and many will not.

My TRT did not resolve my libido issues after 2 years and then I decided to get my prolactin tested with my own money despite 3 different doctors saying I shouldn't test for it, turned out I was 140x the top of the reference range and then MRI confirmed I had prolactin tumor. After 2 months of cabergoline my erections are flawless now, just like they were 15 years ago before I lost my ability. I never dreamed I would be functional again.

After years of eating the standard American diet with processed food full of pesticides, hormones (most meats), glyphosate (most wheat), heavy metals, and seed oils, it takes many years for the mitochondria to recover. 150-200mg of Cypionate once a week is better. 8 weeks apart won’t make a difference even at 1000mg. Need to keep it steady instead of going up high then crashing down. Every week is the key to leveling out and maintaining and/or raising your levels.

Thyroid can make a big difference if you have antibodies and have symptoms. Not all doctors wil agree which makes it so frustrating. Thyroid is tricky to sort out but it can also make a big difference when done right. It requires frequent testing and titration of dose and monitoring symptoms. Hopefully you can find a competent understanding doctor where you are located.

I just started TRT, i was at 148 total T (im 42) so my doc put me on 160mg weekly of cypionate and 1mg of anastrozole. Is that too much aromatase inhibitor?
